Small Particle Reagent

DISCLAIMER: Small Particle Reagent (SPR) is available in black, white, and fluorescent solutions. Choose the reagent which would produce the best contrast against surface being processed.

1. Shake container vigorously before each application.

2. Select an application method. If reagent is being used outdoors while raining, shelter treated surface from direct rainfall.

Spray application:  Rotate the spray nozzle to permit a conical spray (not a steady stream) and evenly spray Small Particle Reagent solution onto the item. When applying to vertical surfaces, start at the top and work down.

Tray immersion: Submerge item in Small Particle Reagent solution, gently rocking the solution back and forth across the item. Remove item from solution when sufficient contrast is developed.

2. Rinse excess Small Particle Reagent solution by lightly spraying water directly above developed ridge detail (allowing the water to flow down) or running item under water for 15 seconds . DO NOT spray or allow flowing water to come into direct contact with any developed ridge detail.

3. Allow item or surface to air dry completely.

4. Ridges will develop a grey, white or fluorescent color (depending on chosen reagent).

5. Capture ridge detail using 1:1 photography. When using a fluorescent Small Particle Reagent solution, view ridge detail using a forensic light source in the long UV range (365nm) using UV protection goggles.

6. Lift ridge detail using a suitable lifting medium (e.g. gel lifter, lifting tape, etc.).
