1. Choose an appropriate color of standard fingerprint powder that will allow for best contrast against the color of the item.
2. Using a fiberglass or animal hair brush, dip tips of bristles into powder.
3. Lightly dust a small amount of powder onto the item.
4. Brush in the direction of any ridges that begin to appear and stop when the latent print reaches point of sufficient clarity.
5. Capture ridge detail using 1:1 photography and/or recover ridge detail using lifting supplies.
