Oil Red O

DISCLAIMER: Oil Red O may be detrimental to subsequent latent print processing. 

1. Submerge item in a tray of Oil Red O solution for 5 seconds. 

2. Place the tray containing the item and Oil Red O solution on an electric shaker for 60 – 90 minutes OR until prints are clearly visible.

3. Place the item in the buffer solution briefly.

4. Rinse the item in distilled water. 

5. Allow item to air dry OR place item in an oven at 50°C to accelerate drying times. 

6. Capture ridge detail using 1:1 photography.

PRO TIP: Where other chemical processes have proved to be ineffective, Oil Red O has been useful for enhancing prints on porous surfaces that are wet or have been wet.
