ELECTROSTATIC DUST LIFTER

Locate the impression of interest using oblique lighting.

If possible, photograph the impression with a scale in place.

Cut a piece of mylar film that is an appropriate size to cover the entire impression.

Lay the mylar film down over the impression with the black side down (black side contacting the impression).

Position the ground plate between 3-5 cm away from the edge of the mylar film.

Place the Electrostatic Dust Lifting device in a way that creates a bridge between the ground plate and the mylar film.  One side of the device should be touching the mylar film and the other should be touching the ground plate.

Turn on the Electrostatic Dust Lifting device to apply voltage to the surface.

Lower the voltage first, then turn the Electrostatic Dust Lifting device off completely.

Slowly pull the mylar film from the surface and flip onto it’s lighter side (black side up).

Check that impression was lifted by examining the mylar film using oblique lighting.

Photograph the impression on the mylar film with a scale in place.

Package lift inside a box for transport.  Tape corners down to keep lift from shifting inside packaging.
