Revolvers

Photograph both sides of the revolver with a scale in place.  In addition, with the firearm lying on its side, drop down to a shallow angle and photograph the top (area above the cylinder), bottom (area below the trigger), back (area along the rear part of the grip) and front (area where the barrel is located).  

Mark the current location of the cylinder with a permanent marker.  Flip the cylinder open, and photograph the location of the cartridges/cartridge cases within the cylinder.  Photograph the opposite side of the cylinder as well to document the presence of any flares/halos from firing.

Photograph the serial number, make, model and/or any other identifying marks observed on the firearm.

Pistols

Photograph both sides of the pistol with a scale in place.  In addition, with the firearm lying on its side, drop down to a shallow angle and photograph the top (slide area), bottom (area below the trigger), back (area along the rear part of the grip) and front (area where the barrel is located).  

Photograph the magazine and any ammunition it contained to include the headstamps.  Photograph any ammunition that remained in the chamber as well as it’s headstamp.

Photograph the serial number, make, model and/or any other identifying marks observed on the firearm.

Long Guns

Photograph both sides of the long gun with a scale in place.  In addition, with the firearm lying on its side, drop down to a shallow angle and photograph the top (area above the barrel), bottom (area below the trigger), back (area along the rear part of the grip) and front (area where the barrel is located).  

If the firearm has a magazine, photograph the magazine and any ammunition it contained to include the headstamps.  Photograph any ammunition that remained in the chamber as well as it’s headstamp.

Photograph the serial number, make, model and/or any other identifying marks observed on the firearm.
