Fluorescent Fingerprint Powder

1. Choose an appropriate color of fluorescent fingerprint powder that will allow for best contrast against the color of the item.

2. Using a feather brush (preferred) or a fiberglass brush, dip tips of bristles into powder.

3. Lightly dust a small amount of powder onto the item.

4. View ridge detail using a laser or forensic light source. Yellow and green fluorescent powders may be viewed in the UV – 450nm range. Red, orange, and pink powders may be viewed in the UV – 530nm range. Colored goggles may vary depending on powder color and fluorescence range.

5. Capture ridge detail with 1:1 photography using an appropriate colored barrier filter and/or recover ridge detail using lifting supplies.
